CHANDRAYAAN-3 India plans for another Moon mission

What is Chandrayaan-3?
The Chandrayaan-3 is the successor to the Chandrayaan-2 mission and it will likely attempt another soft-landing on the lunar surface.

When is the mission scheduled?
The next phase of India's ambitious Moon mission Chandrayaan-3, is scheduled for take-off by 2021 instead of the second half of 2020 as suggested by the government
Chandrayaan-3 specifics
Unlike Chandrayaan-2, which included an orbiter, a lander and a rover, Chandrayaan-3 will only have a lander and rover, along with a propulsion module, ISRO chairman K Sivan said

Chandrayaan-3 mission cost
As per ISRO, the total cost of Chandrayaan-3 mission will be over 600 crores. In comparison, the total cost of the Chandrayaan-2 mission was 960 crores

A milestone to be achieved
If the mission is successful, it would make India the fourth country to achieve a soft landing on the Moon, and boost its credentials as a low-cost space power
So far, only Russia (The Soviet Union), US and China have successfully put a mission on the Moon's surface

What happened to Chandrayaan-2 ?
Chandrayaan-2 was a highly complex mission that aimed to explore the south pole of the Moon by studying all the areas, combining the exosphere, the surface as well as the sub-surface of the moon in a single mission. But the mission remained unsuccessful when the Chandrayaan-2's Vikram lander had a hard landing, and crashed on the lunar surface, even though it managed to complete 90-95% of its objectives
