MIRAGE-2000, "VAJRA'
Also known as Vajra, (thunderbolt) the Mirage-2000 is a multi-role fighter of French origin that can attain a maximum speed of 2495 km/ hr by a single engine!
The aircraft was inducted in IAF in 1985 and played a key role in the 1999 Kargil War and 2019's Balakot air strike.
MIG-21 BISON
In 1961, the IAF opted for the Mikoyan-Gurevich Design Bureau made MiG-21. The plane which forms the "backbone" of IAF played a major role in the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
It has a max speed of 2230 km/hr and carries one 23mm twin barrel cannon with four R-60 close combat missiles.
MIG-29, 'BAAZ
Dubbed as “Baaz" or Hawk, the fighter jet forms the second line of defence. It can carry close combat and medium range radar guided missiles.
The MiGs-29 were used extensively during the Kargil War to provide escort for Mirage-2000 attacking targets with laser-guided bombs.
MIG-27, 'BAHADUR
The Russian-origin fighter aircraft was inducted in 1985, and earned the name Bahadur' (Valiant) as it proved to be extremely effective in the high altitude conflict in Kargil in 1999.
In 2019, Indian Air Force bid farewell to the mighty MiG-27. The aircraft was decommissioned in a grand ceremony held at Air Force Station Jodhpur.
SU-30 MKI
The SU-30 MKI is a twin seater twin engine multirole fighter developed by Russia's Sukhoi. The Jet can carry a wide range of radars, missiles, bombs and rockets and fly at a maximum speed of 2500 km/h.
The Fighter Aircraft is built under licence by India's Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
JAGUAR
Inducted in 1979, the twin-engine, single seater aircraft is a deep penetration ground attack aircraft of Anglo-French Origin.
The plane has a max. speed of 1350 km/hr and can fly low at high speeds. It also has two 30mm guns alongwith 4750 kg of external stores (bombs/fuel).
RAFALE
As one of this year's most awaited defence purchases, the French origin Rafale is a 4.5 generation, twin engine omnirole equipped to carry out a wide range of missions including in-depth strikes, anti ship attacks and nuclear deterrence.
Marking its first public appearance since arrival on Indian land, the Rafale fighter jet features in this year's Air Force Day parade.
